“There’s nothin’ I can’t do. But when danger calls just know that I am on my way. It doesn’t matter where or when there’s trouble if you just call my name. Kim Possible.” For seven-year-old Katelin diagnosed with a brain tumor, this isn’t just a theme song to a TV show.
Katelin plays Kim Possible – the Disney Channel’s cartoon about a girl who fights evil villains– with her friends at recess. She dressed up as the hero for Halloween and even wrote a book titled Katelin Possible for a school project.
To give her some excitement and hope while dealing with her life-threatening medical condition, Make-A-Wish® Oregon volunteers reveal that Katelin’s wish to become a character in the cartoon is coming true. Disney employees were already working behind the scenes to create animated Katelin and make her wish unforgettable.
Katelin and her family take a trip to visit Disney’s Kim Possible production studio where they meet the show’s director, producer and animators. To Katelin’s delight, animators unveil designs of a character they created for her. And they have two framed drawings of animated Katelin – one they autographed for her to take home and one they kept to hang on their studio wall next to a framed photo of Katelin herself.
The crew gives Katelin a VIP tour of the studio, teaches her a few tricks of the trade and names her an honorary cast member. They even promise that she will serve an inspiration for Disney artists on future episodes.
Then Katelin hops into her private lime waiting to take her to the recording studio to record the voice for her character. But surprise, she’s not alone for the session.
When Christy Carlson Romano – the voice of Kim Possible – and Will Friedle – Ron Stoppable – walk into the studio door, Katelin eyes beam with a huge smile. Christy and Will give Katelin their best recording tips and tell her jokes to keep her laughing and relaxed before taping.
After only a few rehearsals, Katelin has her lines down like a pro, only needing two takes to record her part. Christy and Will give Katelin very enthusiastic praise while Katelin’s family proudly wave to their star through the control-booth window.
The Kim Possible stars then finish the day by giving Katelin an autographed Rufus doll, Ron Stoppable’s pet mole rat in the cartoon.
Katelin’s wish is complete when her Kim Possible episode airs on Disney Channel. Viewers hear Kim tell Katelin’s character what the star already knew, “Anything is possible.”
Disney is proud to be a long-supporter of Make-A-Wish® and uses its magic to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. With more than 6,000 wishes granted every year – including visits to the Disney Parks, Disney Cruises, meeting Disney characters, attending sporting events and visiting TV and movie sets – Disney themed wishes are the most popular requests to Make-A-Wish.
